Tools for Organizing and Community Leadership: A 3-Part Series on Kingian Nonviolence

Join On Earth Peace in July 2021 for a 3-week series to explore tools for organizing and community leadership through the values and practices of Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation.

If you are an organizer working for social change, an activist working to reduce violence in your community, or just someone who wants to learn more, join us! We will apply Kingian tools to the context of each organizer/participant - and, you’re welcome if you’re just curious, but don’t have a specific issue in mind. We anticipate participation from members of OEP’s different Learning Action Communities - but no previous involvement is required. Come build relationships and get a taste of Kingian Nonviolence! Participation at all sessions is not required.

Sessions:

Session 1 - Kingian Nonviolence Principles as Tools for Organizing - Monday July 12 from 5.30 to 7pm EST

Consider how the 6 principles of Kingian Nonviolence could strengthen your organizing and community work. How can they provide a platform for building the culture and strategy of your initiatives?

Session Two - Top Down/Bottom Up or “Third Force” Organizing - Monday July 19 from 5.30 to 7pm EST

Create a map for your next steps by applying the 6 categories of leadership and the 3rd force framework. How can you mobilize both “top down” sanctioned power and “bottom up” legitimate/grassroots power?

Session Three: Steps of a Campaign as a Framework for Planning/Action - Monday July 26 from 5.30 to 7pm EST

Examine the six steps of a nonviolence initiative or campaign and consider what’s next in your own community efforts. How could you use this framework to strengthen your strategy?
