The COB Gun Violence Prevention Action Team Hosts First Quarterly Organizing Meeting

The Church of the Brethren Gun Violence Prevention Action Team (COB GVP AT), a project of On Earth Peace, hosted its first quarterly “COB GVP Organizing Meeting” on December 1, 2023. More than thirty Church of the Brethren members and friends from across the country gathered over Zoom to learn more about gun violence prevention and to begin to identify how Jesus might be calling them and their congregations to get involved.

Beginning in mid-January 2024, the COB GVP AT will begin sending newsletter updates roughly on a monthly basis. Each newsletter will contain a resource or simple idea for action that Brethren congregations nationwide can take together, that month, related to gun violence in our country. January’s newsletter will provide two worship resources that congregations may utilize for National Gun Violence Survivors Week (January 22-26, 2024).

If you would like to be on the list to receive the newsletter, please sign up on the On Earth Peace website, here. Indicate that you want email updates and check the “Gun Violence Prevention” box.

To help the team determine how best to direct their energies in the coming year, the COB GVP AT is asking any Brethren concerned about the issue of gun violence to fill out a short survey indicating their particular interests and priorities on this issue. The survey can be accessed here.

Meanwhile, save the date! The next Church of the Brethren Gun Violence Prevention Organizing Meeting will take place on Saturday, March 2 at 1pm ET / 10am PT. All Brethren and friends are welcome; prior attendance is not required.

Please contact Action Team convenor Mandy Park at [email protected] for questions or more information. On Earth Peace, an agency of the Church of the Brethren, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.
