Crowned Success Project

On Earth Peace is very lucky to have wonderful interns who are on a mission to make a change in their community. Our racial justice organizer inter, Maya Hayes, has created and led Crowned Success Project at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Crowned Success Project is a series of events that address discrimination faced by African American female students at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Maya's already led two successful events covering financial literacy and racial discrimination in the workplace, with 17 students joining in.

Speak Up, Speak Out at University of North Carolina at Greensboro

At her first event, Speak Up, Speak Out, students were given a safe space to share their concerns about their experience at UNCG, play games, and chow down on tasty treats. The feedback from that event helped Maya decide what to focus on next, leading to her second event, Expert Insight Q&A, featuring three guest speakers who shared their expertise on internships, finances, recruitment, microaggressions, and Kingian Nonviolent strategies to combat discrimination. There are two more events coming up, focusing on mental health and professional development, set to take place in March and April. With the knowledge she's gained from the project, Hayes plans to leave her mark on UNCG and make a lasting impact.
