Sheila Burton is a former legal aid lawyer and the founder and former Executive Director of Join Hands ESL and the Ubuntu Center for Peace. Sheila started Join Hands Peace Warriors to support teens in East St Louis training other teens in Kingian Nonviolence in 2018. She holds levels one and two certifications in Kingian nonviolence. She was a participant in the Kingian Nonviolence Deep Deep Dive and was a facilitator of Beyond the Dream Course. She recently completed a year long sabbatical devoted to the study of Kingian Nonviolence and the use of Nonviolence as a means of social change and returned to the Ubuntu Center for Peace to begin offering Kingian nonviolence courses to adults in the East St. Louis area. Sheila is excited now to return to her advocacy roots with her Every Child Education Equity Project, applying both her legal skills and her Kingian nonviolence organizing knowledge, to address the achievement gap by working to individualize education as a matter of right for children growing up in the toxic stress and trauma of urban poverty.
Cristobal is a co-founder of the international grassroots animal activist network DxE (Direct Action Everywhere). They launched DxE in 2013 and left in 2019 to pursue other projects. Cristobal leads nonviolence workshops around the country. They work with On Earth Peace and the Kingian Nonviolence Coordinating Committee to further the dream of institutionalizing and internationalizing nonviolence, including by offering trainings to all, with a focus on those who include fighting supremacy and promoting beloved community
