Written by Anna Rodriguez, Kingian Nonviolence Fellow
Join On Earth Peace in October and November 2021 for a 4-week series to explore tools for organizing and community leadership through the values and practices of Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation. If you are an organizer working for social change, an activist working to reduce violence in your community, or just someone who wants to learn more, join us!
You are welcome to bring your own organizing project or context to the table--and you’re welcome if you’re just curious, but don’t have a specific issue in mind. We will apply Kingian tools and perspectives to the context of each organizer/participant and to specific cases.
OEP’s organizing interns will bring examples from their areas of focus -- which include racial justice, LGBTQ+ justice, womens’ justice, environmental justice, migrant justice, and more.
No previous involvement with OEP or Kingian Nonviolence is required. Come build relationships and get a taste of Kingian Nonviolence! Participation at all sessions is not required.
What to expect:
-
Learn Kingian Nonviolence tools and perspectives that can inform community change work - including the social dynamics of nonviolence and selected principles of KNV
-
Practice applying Kingian Nonviolence with case studies drawn from the concerns of OEP’s organizing justice areas and participants’ own organizing (or community concerns)
-
Build Beloved Community to help sustain for the long haul
Main topics:
October 28: “Aggression/Conciliation” - Learn the strategic value of channelling aggression toward conditions and policies instead of individuals.
November 4: Top/Down Bottom Up or 3rd Force Organizing - Learn to mobilize the community including the “Top” (roles of authority) and the “Bottom” (grassroots).
November 11: Leadership Development - Learn the importance of ongoing training and capacity-building for yourself and your community.
November 18: 6 Steps of Kingian Nonviolence and Strategic Planning for Your Initiative - Learn to conceptualize a campaign or change initiative.
