Peace Day

If you would stop someone on the street right now, today, and share with them a heartfelt message about violence in our times - what would you say?  What issues would you name? What breaks your heart right now?

The International Day of Peace is a time when people of faith and conviction can step up and make our broken hearts public, and invite others to join us in praying for healing and reconciliation.

Will you and your congregation or community group plan a public prayer service for peace, on or near the International Day of Peace, September 21Join the conversation on Facebook to let us know you’ll be participating.

You might be concerned about immigrant families at the border, about the war in Syria, about police officers killing black and brown people on the street, about the toxicity of political conversation in society, about the situation of refugees in your own community - will you pray for one or all of these this September? Please accept our invitation to plan a prayer event, to invite community members, to join together in a time of spiritual action.

The theme for the International Day of Peace in 2018 is “The Right to Peace - The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70,” and it celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration states in Article 3, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.” However, the Universal Declaration does not include a separate article on “Right to Peace." This is why we ask you this year: What does “The Right to Peace” mean to you?  How does a Right to Peace relate to God’s dream shown in scripture? Please join our conversation on Facebook to add your thoughts!

We’re especially eager to hear from congregations and community groups who are planning a Peace Day event for 2018 - what are you dreaming up?  Contact us at [email protected] or post in the Facebook group here.
