Peace Day
On Earth Peace invites congregations and community groups to hold special prayers for peace on or near September 21, 2018, the International Day of Peace. On this widely recognized global day, On Earth Peace specifically invites Christian communities to develop prayer events which focus on the right to peace - a birthright of all humanity. The God who called Jesus and all creatures Beloved offers each person the right to live “under their own vines and under their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid.” In God’s new economy, each one has the right to live in peace and unafraid, and the responsibility to participate in turning swords into plowshares (Micah 4). The 2018 International Day of Peace theme of “The Right to Peace” marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. “Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948 as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations” (Source & more info). Join us in praying that these fundamental rights, reflective of the deepest world religions, may be preserved and strengthened in our own communities and countries.
Please browse our Peace Day Facebook group, where community groups and congregations post stories and pictures from their Peace Day prayer events.
