Mark is a passionate supporter and volunteer for many non-profit organizations.
He is involved with PADS of DuPage County, IL, as a supporter and volunteer, and is a dedicated supporter of Christian Peacemaker Teams and On Earth Peace.
He also has served as a board member at the mHub Innovation Center in Chicago for product development, and is teaching courses in entrepreneurship and innovation in the professional Masters programs in the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. Mark and his family are longtime residents of the visionary York Center Co-op neighborhood for community living.

PADS of DuPage County
PADS of DuPage County provides shelter, food, and essential care for the homeless, along with interim and permanent housing and support services in order to help individuals work toward becoming self-sufficient. Mark likes to work the overnight shift desk (2am-6am or 9pm-1am) as a monthly volunteer—helping clients with needs, blankets, personal issues, and talking with them. Part of his responsibilities in this role includes helping people keep calm, and getting them to go back to bed. Mark's other duties include contacting the staffer on call when clients arrive at night and then to helping with their check-ins.

Christian Peacemaker Teams
Christian Peacemaker Teams is an accompaniment organization. They train volunteers go to specific locations and walk with other people there who are experiencing violent oppression, and help to amplify their stories of abuse and oppression so they can be heard by everyone. Mark is a sustaining donor of Christian Peacemaker Teams, enabling these brave field workers to advance their philosophy and practice of standing between groups in conflict, to witness, be there, and make sure somebody is watching.

On Earth Peace
On Earth Peace focuses on supporting people who are working for justice and peace, helping them to develop as leaders in their communities. Mark and his family have been involved with the organization throughout its evolution as an agency for mutual training and accompaniment in the Church of the Brethren and beyond. They have been participating in the On Earth Peace sponsored "Song & Story Fest" week-long family camping activity for many years.
