Laura Hay

A Life Long Learner Committed to Peace and Justice while Looking for Some Whimsy

Stories of Key Peace & Justice Work

Laura was born in Modesto, California. She started going to the Church of the Brethren when she was 12. The church helped to shape her peace and justice work and continues to challenge the ways she advocates for change. Although she disagrees with the church in some ways, Laura wholeheartedly stands by the motto “Continuing the work of Jesus, peacefully, simply, and together.” Currently she is a rising senior at UC Berkeley as a Theatre Performance Studies Major with a Minor in Public Policy. She has been involved with peace and justice almost her life.

Growing up with her parents in Modesto Peace Life center, attending protests, campaigning, and going to song circles, has impacted her life in a very positive way, she believes. She is not sure yet with her future career goal but she knows for sure that she really wants to impact the larger world, hopefully through her knowledge and interest on public policy. She has been a part of the Church of the Brethren, the Modesto Peace Life Center and the Modesto Church of the Brethren.

On Earth Peace's Impact on Laura

“I’ve only just begun my work at OEP but I am already so proud of the community here. I am grateful to be a part of it and am looking forward to continuing to contribute in a meaningful and dynamic way. We have just launched our Raising Race-Conscious Kids Webinar which I have been so excited about and is already turning into a rich conversation about race teachings in our country. ”
