This training will be co-facilitated by Stephen Niamke and Emmy Sterling
Stephen Niamke is the youngest son of Mrs. Maggie P. Jones and Mr. Herbert C. Jones, Sr. He has three older brothers including a twin. Stephen is also a father having one child, Stephanie, who is in the midst of pursuing a doctorate in sociology and anthropology. Stephen is the founder and primary trainer for Conversation Peace, a human relations company based in Roanoke, Virginia. He also works as a crisis/mental health social worker. Stephen is the President and Hub Coordinator of Meta Peace Team, an international peacekeeping organization founded in 1993. He is a Level One trainer in Kingian Nonviolence and will be Level Two as of June 30, 2022. Stephen began as the Director of the Community Solutions Center of Feeding America Southwest Virginia in August of 2022. He regularly co-facilitates training on nonviolence, bystander intervention, meaningful conflict, conflict resolution, and violence de-escalation skills with his sisters and brothers at Meta Peace Team, and is committed to teaching people how to live a holistic lifestyle while also working to improve the overall health and wellness of the community.
Emmy Sterling (she/her) was first introduced to nonviolent action theory at the James Lawson Institute in 2019, and currently works at the Oregon Fellowship of Reconciliation where she helps facilitate connections with others working for peace with justice throughout Oregon. She feels deeply the connection between economic power, health, and the home and hopes to someday offer sex ed and reproductive health counseling to anyone who wants support. Emmy lives in Portland, OR with her partner and toddler.
