This training will be facilitated by Sheila Burton and Stephen Niamke.
Sheila Burton is the founder and Managing Director of Join Hands ESL, and Director of its Ubuntu Center for Peace. Sheila started Join Hands Peace Warriors to support teens in East St Louis training other teens in Kingian Nonviolence in 2018. She holds levels one and two certifications in Kingian nonviolence. She was a participant in the Kingian Nonviolence Deep Deep Dive and was a facilitator of Beyond the Dream Course. She recently completed a year long sabbatical devoted to the study of Kingian Nonviolence and the use of Nonviolence as a means of social change, and is excited to return to Join Hands this summer, to use what she has learned on sabbatical, to expand the justice and equity work of the Ubuntu Center for Peace.
Stephen Niamke is the founder and primary trainer for Conversation Peace, a human relations company based in Roanoke, Virginia. He also works as a crisis/mental health social worker. Stephen is the President and Hub Coordinator of Meta Peace Team, an international peacekeeping organization founded in 1993. Stephen is a Level One trainer in Kingian Nonviolence and will be Level Two as of June 30, 2022. Stephen will begin as the Director of the Community Solutions Center of Feeding America Southwest Virginia in August. He is also a peace activist who regularly co-facilitates training on nonviolence, bystander intervention, meaningful conflict, conflict resolution, and violence de-escalation skills with his sisters and brothers at Meta Peace Team. He is committed to teaching people how to live a holistic lifestyle while also working to improve the overall health and wellness of the community.
