Fiebre Tropical: A Fiction Book Club on Women’s and Migrant Justice Issues delves into the issues surrounding migrant justice for women, exploring them specifically for Colombian immigrants. A coming-of-age story, Fiebre Tropical by Juliana Delgado Lopera is written in Spanglish, a choice made by the author which allows the voices and culture of each of the characters to be fully represented. In this Book Club webinar, we--Kyana, Migrant Justice Organizer, and Hannah, Women’s and Gender Justice Organize--plan to explore the interplay between and intricacies of immigration for a queer teenage girl and her family. Within this framework, we will present a short powerpoint and include multiple opportunities for discussion, both large- and small-group. We will then present action items--things that the people who attend the book club should be aware of currently, as well as ways to take action in their own communities.
