Linda Fry rsvped for Raising kids in times of trauma: A discussion about self care and support for children 2023-01-26 12:15:04 -0500
Join us on Friday 17th February at 2pm EST and 11am PST to talk about trauma and its impact on children and how, as adults, we can best support them. We will be joined by John Kinsel and Kathy Fry-Miller who will lead this discussion on how we can normalize anxieties in ourselves and children surrounding traumas such as gun violence and natural disasters.
We will be discussing strategies, coping mechanisms and self-care techniques to help us manage emotions evoked by trauma. There will be space for questions and open discussion led by John and Kathy.
John Kinsel is a retired child therapist, following a 40 year career focusing on young children with special needs and exposure to trauma and their families. He is also a seasoned trainer for Children's Disaster Services, a Church of the Brethren program that responds to children immediately following a disaster in their community, both natural or person-made. He was blessed to be with Kathy in Nigeria assisting with Trauma Healing.
Kathy Fry-Miller is an author, early childhood consultant, and volunteer. She co-wrote Maria’s Kit of Comfort, a picture book of hope and healing after disaster. She was the associate director of Children’s Disaster Services of the Church of the Brethren, which included work in Nigeria with women educators who had experienced violence. Kathy previously worked as an education specialist with Child Care Resource and Referral, an early childhood director, and a classroom teacher. She currently serves on the board of Education for Conflict Resolution in North Manchester, Indiana.
The event is intended for adults. It is scheduled for one hour however it may be extended to fit the needs of the group. We look forward to seeing you there!

Join us on February 3rd, 2023 for an Organizing Meeting with On Earth Peace’s gun violence organizing campaign. We want to connect with people in churches and neighborhoods who are concerned about gun violence in our country - who are already taking some action or who want to get involved. Come share your story or your hopes for involvement!
This initiative aims to move our constituency into action to reduce gun violence in the United States. If you have been active, we want to hear your stories so others can learn from your experience; if you are recently fired up, we want to offer the community a place to connect. We want to build capacity and commitment and see the way forward for all of us.
You can expect to:
- hear updates from OEP organizing interns about current action on gun violence
- reflect on your (possible) role in the movement
- connect with others who are concerned or involved
- get some energy and power for the work ahead
- identify immediate next steps in your own action against gun violence
You can attend either or both!
Starting at 2:00 pm EST, we extend an invitation for members and friends of the Church of the Brethren for a chat about how we might work together to do something about gun violence specifically as Brethren. How could we stimulate our beloved denomination to take a strong public stance or develop more local initiatives on gun violence? The 30-minute "chat" will be convened by Matt Guynn, OEP's director of organizing, and Mandy Park, a member of OEP's Gun Violence Organizing Campaign who is involved with Moms Demand Action. Mandy is a member of Brownsville CoB, Knoxville, MD.
We extend the invitation to everyone interested in gun violence prevention to join our conversation and campaign.WHENFebruary 03, 2023 at 2:00pm
