Stimulate Peace 2008

The economic stimulus rebates are being processed and many of us are already thinking about how to spend this unexpected windfall.  At On Earth Peace, we are challenged by the reminder that this is intended to stimulate an economy that is funding the war while making up for the economic weakness that is caused in part by the war…it feels like a never ending cycle.

So we are asking you to stimulate peace, instead of war, by donating your rebate to On Earth Peace.  Instead of stimulating a war economy, you can stimulate peace-building in our world.

This special donation will be used to grow our youth and young adult programs, which empower the next generation of peacemakers.  For example we’ll work with students at Church of the Brethren colleges, offer faith and action education in our youth retreats, and provide peace education in church camps.  Because of your support, more young people will receive and spread the message of peace in their communities, becoming the peace leaders of tomorrow.

Young Adult Challenge

We know how important peace is, and we are committed to it, but for many of us just starting in our careers, it is a very large financial sacrifice to donate the entire rebate check. You can still make a difference! Consider making a special donation or tithe from your economic rebate check. Better still, get together a group of ten friends -- your Bible Study group or cousins or classmates -- just find ten people. Everyone giving 10% will mean you can give a full refund for peace.

To let us know how important peace is to you, make sure you include in the Designation Field: "Stimulate Peace Offering" – so we know that you are giving for this very special project!
