Why Peace Witness?

Peace witness: Because God moves us so deeply in love and grace that we must respond.

Paul writes in the letter to the Romans, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect” (12:2).  When we deeply meditate on God’s love for us and for all creation, many are transformed.  We are transformed away from the mainstream culture’s values and visions (war – materialism – racism – a “Haves and Have Nots” world), and toward a vision of the dance of God, the beautiful path of God’s dream for the world.

Some are moved to rise up in solidarity and celebration, speaking out for the freedom of all people and all the created order.  Moved by a personal experience of God’s love, many Christians cannot stand to stay silent about the issues we face today around the world.  How do you respond to the free gift of God’s grace?  Are you moved to seek your own freedom and the freedom of all?

Peace Witness is comprised of all the local organizing done by congregational witness commissions, by parish peace & justice committees, by Decade to Overcome Violence organizers, by lone souls speaking up from among the pews.  On these pages you will find some basic resources that may help you with this work.
