FAQs About Peace Baskets

  • Peace BasketsHow long can I borrow a Peace Basket?
Your church can borrow a Kids' Peace Basket for approximately one month or an Adult Basket for up to three months. Depending on the demand for the materials at the time, you may be able to arrange to keep the Basket for a longer period of time.
  • May I borrow more than one at a time?
While you are free to borrow as many Peace Baskets as you’d like, we encourage you to borrow them one at a time. The Baskets are chock-full of all kinds of books and resources. We have found that when groups borrow more than one Basket at a time, it can be overwhelming as they try to figure out how to incorporate the materials into Sunday School classes or the life of the church. When deciding what you would like to borrow, you might want to take into account the cost, the amount of time you have to give looking at and making plans to use the materials, and who else in the church will be able to use the resources.
  • How much does it cost to borrow a Peace Basket?
Borrowing a Peace Basket is free, except for the cost of return postage. It costs about $25 to mail (and insure) the Basket back to us. Full instructions for returning the Basket are included with your materials.

You may choose to reduce the cost of borrowing the Basket by finding another church in your area that would like to borrow the materials. You could check out the Basket for a month each and split the cost of the return postage. You may also be able to find someone who is traveling to New Windsor, Maryland and willing to bring the materials back to us.
  • Can I see a list of the contents of the Peace Baskets before I request one?
You can look at the contents for each peace basket by clicking on the links in the lefthand sidebar. If you are interested in purchasing some of these resources, you can view and print the .pdf files which list purchasing information (publisher, ISBN, and price) for the Kids' Peace Baskets. Please contact us if you have further questions about resources.
  • When can I get a Peace Basket?
Availability depends on who else is using the materials; sometimes there is a waiting list. Please call email Marie Rhoades to check on the availability of the Basket you would like to borrow.
  • How do I get a Peace Basket?
Peace Baskets are shipped UPS and can be sent to your home or church. We need a street address to ship the basket (not a PO Box) and a contact name and phone number. Contact Marie Rhoades if you would like to reserve a Peace Basket for your church!
  • How can I use the materials in the Peace Basket?
Peace Baskets are designed to provide you with an array of materials about different issues of Biblical peace and justice. The Baskets are not a set program! You will need to figure out how these materials can be used in your church. There are curriculum resources that could be used in Sunday School, children’s story books that would make good starters for a Sunday morning Children’s Story, and nonfiction that would be great discussion material for a book group or adult Sunday School class. In the Kid’s Peace Basket, there are videos and stories that introduce children (and others) to Brethren history.

Some churches have made a checklist for church members to take home books and resources (like a library). Others have given the materials to the Christian Education Director or a group of Sunday School teachers. There are endless ways to use the materials in the Peace Basket!
