You’re Invited to Build Community while Building Peace

A Preview of the On Earth Peace 2009
International Day of Prayer for Peace Campaign

What's coming up for the On Earth Peace 2009 International Day of Prayer for Peace campaign? When the campaign begins on April 1, 2009, participating churches and organizations will be invited to address the local problems of the economic collapse that people are facing in towns and cities throughout the U.S.

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release
to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor…”
Isaiah 61:1-2a

What would Jesus say about homelessness?

If you accept this invitation...

On September 21, 2009, you will gather with a new group of local friends who share common concerns about the problems your community faces.

They will join with you to pray for your community and the healing it needs. You will come together to pray about things like:

…loss of jobs
…families falling apart
…gun violence
…domestic violence
…continuing racism
…factories leaving town
…foreclosures
…militarization and youth
…gangs
…businesses closing their doors
…apathy
…hungry people on the streets
…homelessness
…the never-ending wars
...and our young people who have fought them

The group that gathers on September 21, 2009, may just be part of the solution.

Shalom is a broader concept than peace.

Peace
...more than the absence of war
...more than the absence of
...........violence.

Peace
. . . a positive presence,
. . . a healthy loving relationship
............between people,
............within communities,
............among nations,
............and with God.

A peaceful community
. . . one where people have a sense of a positive future together,
. . . where the lost and the least are cared for,
. . . where healing happens and hungers of the heart are fed.
