IDPP 2010 Campaign: "A Future and a Hope"
In the last few years, hundreds of congregations and community groups have connected with On Earth Peace to pray for peace in their communities and our world on September 21. We are excited about the 2010 campaign, which kicks off officially on May 15. We invite you to start dreaming now about how your involvement in IDPP can create momentum for prayerful, hopeful action to address violence, poverty, and injustice in your community or our world.
The International Day of Prayer for Peace will be observed this year on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
Here are some of the element's of this year's offering:
- In addition to community groups, this year we are inviting individuals and families to participate in specially-designed prayer and spiritual formation activities.
- For each kind of participant, we'll offer a "Roots and Branches" approach to the International Day of Prayer for Peace--activities to strengthen your roots through spiritual formation, and/or grow your branches by reaching out into the community.
- We are calling ten congregations or groups to step up to the special challenge of going a level deeper in community engagement by developing a listening initiative, an intensive and locally tailored effort to gather information and opinions about the issues your community is facing.
- On Earth Peace staff will offer phone coaching and participatory leadership seminars for participating groups, as they develop listening initiatives and prayer vigils.
What's this all leading to? We hope that the activities leading up the International Day of Prayer for Peace create momentum in your community to address violence, injustice, and poverty. For those communities where the initial steps of organizing build up a head of steam, in the weeks and months after September 21 we will offer an intensive follow-up program of face-to-face training and webinars in nonviolent community leadership.
